Perfect Blackened Cod

On the hunt for delicious and easy ways to serve fish? Add this scrumptious recipe to your rotation. Everyone needs fast and delicious protein options, and this cod can be served as tacos, or on its own, and the side possibilities are endless. I have also adjusted the heat, so it’s family friendly. And bonus, it comes together in about 15 minutes!

Perfect Blackened Cod

Course: Main Course


  • 4 fillets cod
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried thyme
  • 4 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper omit if you don't want the heat or are serving to children
  • 1 lime or lemon cut into wedges


  • Pat cod dry with a paper towel
  • Mix all the dry ingredients in a small bowl, evenly cover the fish with the mixture (reserve some for the bottom of the fish, once you flip)
  • Heat skillet over medium high heat, once hot, add the ghee and avocado oil. Carefully, add the fish seasoned side down, and sprinkling remaining seasonings on the unseasoned side
  • Sear for 4 minutes DO NOT TOUCH until the timer dings, then carefully flip using a fish spatula, searing another 4 minutes
  • Squeeze of fresh lime or lemon, and serve as desired
