Start the Day on the Right Foot

If you have been following along with me on social media, you’re probably already aware of the fact that I take my mornings very seriously. From taking the time to use my diffuser, making a fresh cup of coffee, and creating a nourishing breakfast such as Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs or a tasty Whole30 Brussels Sprouts Hash, the elements of my morning routine are pretty much non-negotiable for me. Over the years I’ve found that taking just this little bit of time for myself allows me to clear my mind and start my morning on the right foot, prepared for whatever shenanigans may come my way.

Yet, while I mention or even show these aspects of my day fairly often, what I don’t typically talk about is my makeup routine! That doesn’t mean it’s any less important, though. Of course, I don’t need makeup. Nobody does! Yet, I’ve found that applying just a bit to spruce up my tired mama eyes makes me feel my best! I don’t wear much, just enough to cover the bags and any blemishes that decide to make a home on my face. How rude!

However, through trial and error, I’ve found that not all makeup is created equally. In all honesty, I’ve tried, tested, and reviewed my fair share of products. Some have been life-changing good, others have been horrendous failures, and some have been somewhere in the middle. Luckily, I’m confident in saying that I have finally nailed down my holy grail, can’t live without makeup products. Quick and easy, they can be applied in minutes and freshen up my face with ease for a minimal makeup look I love! So, to prevent you from making some of the same makeup blunders I have throughout the years, I’m sharing my top 5 favorite makeup products to add to your morning routine! Take a look below to find them all.

Blush

I have been after a fresh dewy look for what seems like years, and this Tarte Breezy Cream Blush in the color Pink Sky gives me EXACTLY that! Initially, the color is a bit intimidating and definitely seemed too dark for my skin tone. However, I found that when using this Breezy Blusher Cream Blush Brush to work the blush upwards toward my cheekbones, it comes out perfectly. Trust me! The finished product is the best kind of natural, fresh-faced, and dewy glow that lasts all day!

Highlighter

I am absolutely in love with this Iconic London Illuminator Liquid Highlight in the original color! I have found that the champagne color works for a super wide variety of skin tones, but there are two other options to fit your needs! Don’t be intimidated by the fact that it’s liquid. It goes on super smoothly and adds such great dimension perfect for a fresh daytime face or classic evening look. I usually just use a small dot on my finger. Then, I blend it upwards towards the corner of my eyes, above my brow bone, and down the center of my nose. To finish, I add the tiniest of tiny dots just above my cupid’s bow (the space between the double curve of the upper lip).

Lipstick

This Beauty Counter Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick in the Petal color is the very best daytime lip wear! I have worn it for almost 2 years and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! It creates just the right amount of natural lip color. Plus, it goes well with a wide variety of skin tones! Personally, I like that it adds a subtle natural color for a super natural fresh-faced look!

Under Eye Concealer + Sponge

If I’m leaving my house for any reason, I have this Tarte Shape Tape concealer in the color 20B Light on my face! In my opinion, it has THE BEST coverage! Recently, I also learned the best way for a woman of my age (ahem), to apply it. To do so, just dab a small amount in the corner of your under-eye as well as on the inside corner of your eye. Then, using this sponge, blend it out, avoiding the center of your undereye as much as possible to prevent the heaviness of a full swipe of concealer which can weigh your eyes down and actually make you look even more tired. . For a bonus, give your sponge 2 small spritz of a setting spray! This step helps both blend and set the concealer.

*Bonus! Keep your sponge clean by storing it in this fun holder!

Powder Foundation

Call me old-fashioned, but I’m not a fan of liquid foundation. I know, thoughts of being a blogger or influencer of any kind could be long gone with such a bold statement. BUTTTTTT, I’ve never cared for the painted feeling of liquid foundations. Of course, it’s possible I just might not be applying it correctly, but I promise I’ve tried a bunch of tutortials! At the end of the day, I prefer the lighter coverage of a powder. Over the course of the last few years (okay, basically since I realized I’m getting old haha), I have worked to improve my skin and optimize my routine by utilizing Fraxel or IPL laser procedures to help remove sun damage and even out the texture of damaged skin. As a result, I have been able to reduce the amount of heavy coverage I feel I need from foundations. While this Dior Forever Extreme Control Matte Powder Foundation in the color 0320 is one of my pricier products, I don’t mind the investment, because I don’t use much in one go. Plus, the coverage is great! I use my Elite Oval Artis makeup brush (if you haven’t heard of these brushes, they’re definitely worth looking up. They’re INCREDIBLE!) With the help of the brush, this foundation goes on evenly and pairs well with my blush, creating a natural and smooth appearance!

So, there you have it! My 5 go-to makeup products for a fresh and dewy daytime look. Do you have any items you swear by that you think I should try? Let me know in the comments below, and feel free to share your favorite makeup looks as well! I can’t wait to see them!

In the meantime, enjoy!
